Electronic thermometers consist of a temperature sensor, an LCD display, a button battery, a dedicated integrated circuit, and other electronic components. Their temperature sensors can be mainly divided into resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) (such as metal RTDs), semiconductor RTDs (thermistors), and integrated temperature sensors. They can quickly and accurately measure human body temperature. Compared with traditional mercury thermometers, they offer advantages such as convenient reading, short measurement time, high accuracy, memory function, and a buzzer alert. Most importantly, electronic thermometers do not contain mercury, making them harmless to humans and the environment.

According to a relevant notice from the National Medical Products Administration, my country will completely ban the production of mercury-containing thermometers starting January 1, 2026. Qualified electronic thermometers have no significant difference in accuracy compared to mercury thermometers, and the error range stipulated by the state meets clinical diagnostic requirements. Electronic thermometers offer advantages such as rapid measurement, avoidance of mercury leakage risks, and easy data recording, making them particularly suitable for use in homes and hospitals.
