A sphygmomanometer is an instrument used to measure blood pressure. There are two main types: auscultatory sphygmomanometers and oscillometric sphygmomanometers.
Auscultatory sphygmomanometers mainly include: mercury sphygmomanometers (pressure gauges) and spring-loaded sphygmomanometers (such as light column sphygmomanometers, light display sphygmomanometers, and LCD sphygmomanometers).
The oscillometric method, also known as the oscillation method, works by capturing the oscillations generated during deflation and calculating the blood pressure value using a specific algorithm. The vast majority of electronic sphygmomanometers are designed using the oscillometric principle.
